How I remove scratches from metal amplifiers

Deep scratches are another story, and while there may be no way of completely removing them from the surface on metal amplifiers, sub issues with their shine or reflectivity can still possibly improve.

Assess the Scratch Depth

Check how deep the scratch is. Smaller, superficial paint scratches can be removed with a buffer and some elbow grease while deeper gouges will need a little more TLC.

Try Metal Polish

For light scratches, apply a quality metal polish such as Autosol Metal Polish (ad)(ad) and rub in with microfiber cloth circles. This can really help blur any mild imperfections.

Sand Carefully

Deeper scratches may be improved with light sanding — use very fine grit (1000 or higher)_SENT Step 1: Sand in the direction of metal grain. Follow up with metal polish.

Consider Professional Repair

You May Want to Consider Professional Repair for Valuable Vintage Amps or Very Deep ScratchesIf you have a very valuable vintage amplifier, and especially if the handles are solid metal/plastic like on older Fender amps (vs leather) then its best done by a professional amp technician who can do this without damaging your electronics.

It is important to remember that completely removing deep scratches means grinding the metal around it down to that level and this isn’t always an option. Try to reduce their appearance, not remove!
