A leather conditioner can reduce the visibility of minor scratches. The conditioner will hydrate and condition the leather which can darken smaller marks. Just make sure that you use a product designed specifically for leather.
Fill Deep Scratches
If your claw marks go deeper than the top layer of dye use a leather filler compound to fill in the gouge before applying color. Use putty in a small spat, wait to dry and sand gently smoother before applying the color again.
