The iPhone 3GS and iOS 6
The iPhone 3GS was launched in 2009 and last supported by Apple in 2013, with major iOS updates until iOS5. It’s hard to believe, but iOS 6 was the last version of iOS that supported the 3GS — and it hit in Sept. 2012.
How well iOS 6 runs on an iPhone 3GS
The iPhone 3GS could run iOS 6 but it was slow. The 3GS lagged and slowed down with the latest version of iOS in comparison to newer iPhones, largely a result of years worth the addition of features.
Functionality on the iPhone 3GS
There were still features from the new version that the iPhone 3GS could not handle, despite the latter’s capability of running iOS 6. One example is the offline reading list feature, which was missing on the 3GS. There are likely many other apps that have ceased supporting the 3GS because its hardware, being 6 years old, is simply too antiquated at this point.
Using the iPhone 3GS in 2022
The iPhone 3GS is also more than a decade and not supported by Apple7 in 2022. The experience on the 3GS is not ideal for most users, since its limitations and lack of support from modern apps make it a bit hopeless to use with iOS 6. If you’d rather support my hacks and run newer versions of iOS7, get a more modern iPhone.
