Who Should Perform Cardiac Ablation?
Cardiac ablation is a highly specialized procedure used to treat arrhythmias, and most often occurs in a hospital or electrophysiology lab. The Heart Rhythm Centre performs this minimally invasive procedure which is indicated for the treatment of heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias).
Procedure Overview
In a cardiac ablation procedure, catheters are inserted by a cardiologist or cardiac electrophysiologist through blood vessels to the heart. Performed through the insertion of a catheter, it usually lasts between 2-4 hours, depending on the type and difficulty of the arrhythmia. Post-Procedure Care
After the surgery, patients are taken to a recovery area for several hours. They may have some mild discomfort or bruising at the catheter insertion site but usually can go back to their normal activities within a few days26. Follow up visits help make sure everything is healing properly and other symptoms are being managed.
In effect, however, cardiac ablation is executed in controlled hospital environments which place patient safety and security at the top of their priority list for optimal conditions using sophisticated technology and medical staff trained at such a high level to properly address arrhythmias during the ablation procedure.
