What not to donate at Habitat for Humanity On the other end of getting what you want is knowing what they don’t have and can use from time to time, so here are some things that won’t be accepted by ReStores. By understanding these restrictions donors are better equipped to make decisions, and the gifts more meaningful and useful for helping an organization deliver on its mission.
Commonly Rejected Items:
Bedding and Furniture:
Box Springs and MattressesThese items are not accepted due to hygienic matters as they will be impossible to sale.
Toddler Beds, Cribs: Due to safety regulations we cannot take any of these due they either not being up to current standards.habitat for humanity (ad)
Entertainment Centers… VERY bulky and just do not seem to move through ReStore’s doors because we are so limited on what inventory will fit.
Construction Materials:
For this next area, I will discuss used or damaged flooring which includes carpet and tile that demonstrates wear or is in a shape-of-disrepair.
Fluorescent Bulbs: — Not acceptable for where they contain the environmentally unsafe chemical substance mercury
Electronics and Appliances:
Household Electronics: Things like TVs (except for flat panel) and computers are mostly not taken due to their age and condition.
Medical Equipment: We are unable to accept medical equipment such as hospital beds or wheelchairs for safety and liability reasons.
Following these standards allows donors to help Habitat for Humanity which in turn assists the organization through streamlining donations that are beneficial and safe for resale.
