Fix Gear in Final Fantasy XIVTo keep your gear up to snuff for dungeon dives and boss brawls, you can head back into the Basics of Combat by pressing O. There are two main ways a player can repair their gear: using Mender NPCs or repairing items themselves.
Mender NPCs
These Mender NPCs are strewn about in the game, usually clustering around towns and aetheryte camps. For a fee these NPCs repair player gear back up to 100% condition. As the equipment level of units grow, so too does their cost to repair — meaning that players will want to stretch out each unit’s usefulness by managing resources as effectively as possible13.
Self-Repairing Gear
Alternatively, they can also repair gear on their own which usually ends up being a cheaper way. Players must do so by leveling up a crafting class (Disciples of the Hand) and obtaining Dark Matter — a requisite material for repairs. Every piece of gear has a listed crafting level and requires Grade 15 Dark Matter to be repaired. Not only does this method permits players to repair gear at will, but also lets them bypass the regular 100% durability cap when doing so on items under said percentage45.gear repair (ad)
Repairing Other Players’ Gear
As it stands now if you want to repair other people’s gear in FFXIV then you have to just Meld materia onto their equipment for them. This restriction has been a rather divisive topic within the community, and one of the more common requests is for players to be able to help out their fireteam friends mid-game by repairing damaged equipment. bio1 suggests that such a measure could help encourage cooperative play and reduce the speed of moving from target to target in dungeons68.
So in other words, players can easily repair their gear themselves or use a Mender NPC but the ability to help others with repairs is still something many FFXIV gamers seem interested in seeing at some point.
