Here is how you can make and use this basic wood scratch repair mix:
Ingredients and Mixing
• 3/4 cup vegetable or olive oil • 1/4 cup white vinegar (Combine the two in a bowl and stir well. The oil conditions the wood and the vinegar cleans, cuts through build-up (especially grease) but also slightly etches the surface which is what helps to break down shiny finishes.
Application Process
Wipe the place with scratches properly
With a soft cloth or paper towel, dip into the solution
For scratches, rub the solution on gently and work into the wood grain.
Design Sponge Allow to cool for a few hours, then wipe away the excess.
Repeat if required for more stubborn scratches
How It Works
The oil seeps into the wood to darken the lighter-coloured scratch. At the same time, the vinegar acid takes out some of those wood fibers allowing them to take in the oil and mix with all previous finishes. It also does a great job of hiding minor scratches.
