Repeat No Credit (RNC) Policy Arizona State University allows students who did not earn satisfactory grades to retake their courses within certain guidelines. Lets see the retake policy from some of my perspective twice
Course Retake Limits
Students may repeat up to 12 credit hours of coursework in which an original grade is a ‘D’ or lower.ASU Retake Policy (ad) Thus, a student can re-take any course in which they failed and supplant the failing grade with a higher one when calculating their GPA by repeating it. However, both grades will still appear on the transcript and so you have a clear record of where this student has been academically16.
Retaking Courses Terms
Important Notes about Retaking A Class for GPA Replacement:
A course may only be repeated if the student received a grade of “D” or “E.
A student who passed with a “C” or better must appeal again to be allowed an opportunity for retaking the course24.
Petitions for students wanting to take a course more than 2 times are reviewed by the appropriate academic committee looking at past performance and plans for future success34.
Effect on GPA and Academic Suspension
The retake policy was designed to motivate academic growth. Instead, if students retake a course they previously failed and pass it the second time, that new grade is all factored into their GPA —giving students a reason to continue working until they have Demonstrable Competency. This policy can be seen to part of a broader strategy by ASU to help increase student success and retention in their studies17.
To sum up, ASU’s retake policy affords students opportunities to rebound after academic downfalls and remain honest about the courses they are technically taking.
